HALAR ECTFE vs ETFE Performance Comparison

Teflon powder coating

Advantages of ETFE fluoropolymer compared with other coating materials:

  • It is mainly applied by electrostatic spray coating method.
  • Fluidizedbed technology can also be adopted.
  • Coatings ranging from 0.125 mm to more than 2 mm can be obtained via electrostatic spray coating.
  • The coating is tough, featuring excellent wear resistance, flexibility and outstanding impact resistance.
  • Superior chemical resistance – resistant to damage from strong acids, strong alkalis and other inorganic substances.
  • Desirable anti-stick property.

Notes

  1. Halar ECTFE achieves UL 94 V-O flame retardant rating at a coating thickness of only 0.18 mm, while ETFE requires a thickness of 1.6 mm to reach the same rating. This proves that Halar ECTFE delivers superior flame retardant performance than ETFE at the same coating thickness.
  2. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) is a key indicator for evaluating flame retardancy. A higher LOI value indicates slower flame propagation speed and lower smoke generation during combustion.
